Smile Squared began in 2011 when Eric Cope volunteered in Guatemala hosting dental and hygiene clinics for children. He was amazed at how many issues these children had due to the lack of basic needs like a toothbrush. He left the country determined to make a difference. After much study and thought he realized the problem wasn't isolated to the children of Guatemala, but rather, all across our globe, including the USA.
Rather than creating fundraisers, he wanted something more sustainable that would carry through to multiple children. This is when Smile Squared was born. For every toothbrush purchased, they donate one to a child in need. They have partnered with many organizations that have been able to carry their bamboo toothbrushes to children across the world. These toothbrushes have been distributed throughout communities in 50 states and over 20 countries worldwide!
They also carry a travel line of goods such as journals and bags. This component to Smile Squared came to be after one of Eric's good friends lost his young son, Zach, to a brain tumor. 10% of the proceeds from Zach's bags will be donated to a non-profit that helps fun "wish trips" for terminally ill children.
Eric and his wife adopted their oldest son from Guatemala and have had the opportunity to travel back with him to the country he was born and show him the impact Smile Squared is having on the community there. What a special legacy to be part of! In the words of Eric, "We truly work #bettertogether when you #shareyoursmile."
