Moeloco

Moeloco means "crazy dream" and that is just what founder Kathy Wong had when she started Moeloco. She had a burning desire to make a bigger and more positive impact in the world so she began to search for her deeper purpose in life and allowed herself to dream the impossible. Kathy's "dream crazy" is to make it easy for people to make a difference to the welfare of children in extreme poverty, simply by choosing where they shop. Good for your soul and your sole!

With every shoe purchase from Moeloco, a pair of shoes are given to a child in poverty in India through The Hope Foundation. They have been able to give over five thousand pairs of shoes to children in need. In particular, a little boy who had never owned a pair of shoes was gifted a pair (because of your purchase!). He treasured his shoes so much, he placed them under his pillow and slept with them there every night.

Moeloco's rubber flip flops leave not only a positive message in the sand, but leave a lasting impact in the lives of children in India.

Bradford and Bryan Manning are the brothers behind Two Blind Brothers. They both have an eye condition known as Stargardt's disease that causes them to progressively lose their eyesight. They decided to create Two Blind Brothers, a luxury casual clothing line, when they both accidentally purchased the same shirt while feeling clothing in a department store.

Bradford and Bryan have two missions for Two Blind Brothers: 1. to cure blindness; and 2. to create the softest clothes ever felt. Since launching in May, they have been able to donate over $30K to the Foundation Fighting Blindness (the organization they have partnered with). There are 20 clinical trials currently being funded for these diseases. They have been speakers at their NYC Fashion Ball and one of their biggest corporate contributors for their #HowEyeSeeIt campaign.

100% of their profits go to cure blindness. Start shopping now at www.twoblindbros.com!

Bloom and give

Bloom and Give was birthed from a vision Partha Raghunathan and Madhu Rajendran had after visiting Rajasthan, India to help a friend source block printed textiles. They instantly fell in love with the crafted work of local artisans who were using rich techniques of weaving, dyeing and sewing that have been passed down through generations. But what really stuck out to them was the gender disparity and inequity in the villages where the artisans lived.

Education is the only effective way for the girls to escape the endless cycle of childhood marriage, pre-teen pregnancy and abuse. This is where Bloom and Give really came to life. Partha and Madhu pair modern design with traditional artistry to create beautiful products for every day life - from scarves and handbags to kitchen linens (home good textiles and baby products launching soon!).

Through the sale of each product, they give back 50% to a program called Educate Girls that helps girls enroll in school, mentors and tutors them. This gives them the opportunity to be elected on the girls' councils in every school. This gives girls a voice, a leadership position in the school and training in "life skills". Opportunities they wouldn't have outside of this program.

Bloom and Give also launched their own programs to aid in funding a school or group of girls in need: Mangala School and Doosra Dashak.
  1. Mangala School: serves 15 tribal villages in the southern state of Karnataka. Due to its location in a heavily forested region, the school faces a big problem of attrition - of students, and teachers as well. The school has been adopted by The Vanam Foundation, a non-profit organization that promote socially just and ecologically sustainable development. Vanam helps fund infrastructure projects, student retention efforts and helps with teacher staffing. We contributed to the development of a new classroom earlier this year.
  2. Doosra Dashak ("Second Decade"): provides a second chance of education to rural area adolescents who are out of school. Through our partnership, we will provide full funding to a community center in Samrathpura village in Rajasthan for 1 year. This center will provide basic education and training in health, gender sensitivity, religious harmony and personal cleanliness to the nearly 100 out-of-school adolescents in the village, to help them take charge of their lives with dignity.

Their favorite success story from an impact their customers and company have had is that of a 13 year old girl, Suman. Here is her story:

"This is the story 13-year old Suman, who was pulled out of school this past summer. One of our Bloom & Give program coordinators visited Suman's home to check in on her. Turns out she had other important things to do - take the sheep grazing, and care for her year-old infant sister. The deal negotiated with her parents was that she could come late to class (after grazing the sheep), and bring her infant sister to class 3 days a week. Suman loves to paint and draw and according to the Bloom & Give team that visited her, has an answer to all the questions in class!"

If you've ever strolled down King Street in the iconic Charlesten, South Carolina then there is a good chance you have seen and even stopped by Be the Change Boutique. This storefront has become a location to purchase clothing, accessories, and home goods that have a bigger purpose - to give back to society.

Ashley and Ashleigh have been friends for years and after spending some time pursuing their own personal goals with school, careers, and traveling, Ashley came back from Uganda with a piece of her heart left behind. She came up with the idea to offer a storefront that gives back and after approaching her friend, Ashleigh, they opened Be the Change Boutique in two short months.

They offer mission or cause based products that give back locally and globally. They believe in doing good in all the ways you can for all the people you can and have, therefore, partnered with over 60 organizations over the years.

"Our struggles are small in comparison to those we seek to provide awareness for."
- Ashley and Ashleigh

Don't plan on visiting Charleston any time soon? (That's too bad because it's a pretty cool city!) No worries! You can shop on their website and connect with them on social media.
